Student journalists and advisors gathered all around from New York City and had the opportunity to learn more about useful techniques and media journalists used.

On December 11th, the NYC High School Journalism Conference was held at Baruch college. Students and presenters gathered at eight in the morning and started out with breakfast.

“There are three things I’m looking forward to in this conference: the connection between presenter and journalists, live tweeting competition, and setting the award that the students get,” host Katina Paron said.

Throughout the conference, there were different sessions that students could choose each time they had a new session to move onto. During the sessions, there were varieties of presenters ranging from professors to journalists.

“Most of the sessions I went to were geared towards copy editing and grammar, so I learned about common mistakes and how to watch out for them. I also learned different words that most journalists use such as graf and led that I would be able to use it in the future,” senior Markella Giannakopoulos said.

At the end of the conference, the school won an award for “Best Online News Website Runner Up”. The winner was the Townsend Harris School online website.
